Fleece Poncho
How to make a fleece poncho?
The cozy clothes weather is here again. I bet all of you have experienced it – very cold morning, where you want to put on even a winter jacket, and warm afternoon. Well, I have a solution for you – a fleece poncho with a cowl that will keep your neck warm and you don’t need a scarf, as you will with the other ponchos.
Let’s get started!
What do you need
1-piece fleece fabric 60cm x 56cm – for the cowl
1-piece fleece fabric 138cm x 153cm – for the poncho
Scissors
Sewing machine
Thread
Tailor’s chalk or pencil
Cloth tape measurement
Step 1
Take the big piece for the poncho and fold it twice as shown in the pictures below.
First, we fold once from the longer side. The second fold is from the short side. It should look like a square, as it is showed in the picture with the red circle. The red circle is the place where you should measure a rectangular with size 10cm x 5cm (this will be the hole for the neck).
Step 2
Connect the 2 dots from the red rectangular with a curved line and cut it. Make sure that this width is enough to fit over your head.
Step 3
Fold the cowl in half, right sides together, matching the 56cm edges, and stich along these edges.
Step 4
Mark half cm around the cowl with a chalk. Then mark half cm of the poncho neckline. Open cowl. With the cowl good side out and the poncho bad side out, stick the cowl through the neckline opening so it is inside the poncho and the fabrics are good sides together. Match the half cm of the cowl to the one of the poncho, pin it and then stich it. When you pull the cowl back out, it will look like the picture below.
We use fleece fabric, which means there is no need to finish the edges, because this fabric doesn’t fray. Put your poncho and enjoy the cold mornings.
